Gallery Selection of the Month, June 2020
Fajada Butte is an inspirational landscape of New Mexico. I call it the rock of time. It is my favorite landscape in New Mexico. For me, it is more inspiring than Ship Rock, more historically significant than Wagon Mound and more amazing than Tent Rocks. When I feel our times have become too fraught, I think about this lone feature which I visit when I can.
The Sun Dagger
High up and deep in its crevices a spiral, known as the Sun Dagger, is carved into the rock face. At the summer solstice, a shaft of light pierces the spiral at its center. At the winter solstice two slivers of light frame it. Fajada Butte with its Sun Dagger is my beacon of strength and endurance.
